Abundance of streaks in toner cartridges

After replacing the imaging unit (the printer won't print until I replace it) I now have a TON of black streaks all over the paper. The only place where the toner coverage is good is about half an inch from the left and right edges. Pretty annoying considering I could just spend another $40 and buy a brand new printer instead of being stuck with one I can't print from!
