I have a 2004 Ford Focus ZX3 and have been dealing with a fan squeak for a number of years. When my air/heat was on level 1 or 2 the squeaking would drive me crazy and the music had to be turned up. I thought it was a more serious problem but after reading a lot of forums I decided to remove mine, clean the assembly and brushes and hopefully that will solve the problem, no. So I decided to take a chance. It was a very easy installation, just 7 screws (in my model) and a connector (with two electrodes). It sits just behind the glove box and is pretty easy to change, I didn't even have to remove the passenger seat. It's pretty much plug and play and wow, no more squeaks. Now I don't even notice my fan running on lower settings.
