The sound wasn't great and they make a very loud and annoying beep every time the button is pressed. Deal breaker for me as 1: My kids wanted to use them for 'secret spy stuff' and it's not really a secret when a loud beep goes off to give you away, plus 2: I live in a house with kids who click on the button . Keys over and over again (and over and over again). The volume control either didn't work or was very limited, so overall it was all loud, loud, loud. I returned them and bought another set of three radios with much better results.
