I see a lot of feedback that it's too heavy but it's from people who bought it for a toddler or 1 year old to have. The manufacturer recommended age range is 2-4 years and this has been very accurate with my children. They both started playing at about 24 months without much disappointment and my eldest daughter found it difficult enough to be interesting until she was three years old. It's an increase in complexity over the lid-only hole shape sorter, so I'd recommend buying it if that version seems too basic for your little one. I would not recommend this for children under the age of 2, especially if they are teething. The paint comes off easily and the wood was soft enough for my teething toddler to leave bite marks on. I only chose to buy it for my older child when her younger sister was asleep because of teething and also because even a regular damp cloth would remove the color when I cleaned it. I still like the 2-4 year old toy, just keep it away from small rodents.
