. So far I've tested this device on two different Fire devices, a laptop, a desktop, and a Tivoli radio. I've played in dance bands, been in recording studios, and been there long enough to see primitive paper cone speakers, not completely removed from those cups of shaved water and ice, transition to modern speakers made with exotic materials. This includes electronics that compensate for their shortcomings. Every loudspeaker has flaws, no matter how expensive it is. Also keep in mind that the adult ear can't even hear the actual range of many of the less expensive speakers on the market, as they're more aware of the overall tonal balance or which speakers seem better suited to the genres they're listening to. I ordered these for a woman who wanted to listen to movies and needed to speed up these programs on her laptop with a requirement that the speaker be small, portable and inexpensive. The speaker's high and low frequencies have been sacrificed in favor of the mid-range frequencies, which are optimal for the human voice in movies. This isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're playing music, as it sounds pretty balanced for the price and size of the device. Additionally, when you combine the audio levels of the device you're listening to with the manufacturer's recommended speaker volume control, I doubt these mini earbuds aren't loud enough for personal use. Distortion can occur when a speaker is amplified beyond a certain level. I'm in my 60's and couldn't get this distortion because the sound was already too loud for me when I stood next to it while adjusting the volume. In this volume range, the sound was clear and by no means seemed too amplified for the speaker. It's a matter of perspective. With all due respect to those who complain that this speaker doesn't live up to their claims of bigger, more expensive and more powerful speakers, the sound quality here, including the music, was CLEAR and in one case a huge improvement over the built in speakers of everyone before it mentioned devices. The price and portability of the device, along with the distortion and increased cost associated with Bluetooth devices, make this a directly connected device worth considering.
