Review on X-ACTO Quiet Pro Electric Pencil Sharpener, Auto-Adjust Dial, SafeStart Motor, SmartStop - Black, 1 Count: The Perfect Sharpener for Precise, Quiet, and Safe Pencil Sharpening by Kristen Simpson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Broken lead is almost impossible to remove.

I liked that. Thing is smooth. It automatically adjusts to the size of the pencil. Sharpens quickly and relatively quietly. It lights up around the pen. It has a very large chip container. It will stop automatically when the pencil is sharpened. I like all that very much. Also a note. There is a large square button on the back for removing the chip container. Not obvious, but easy once you know it's there. There was no mention of this in the poor instructions. That's what I don't like. I sharpened some graphite pencils for drawing. The lead on the third pencil broke. Not a deal breaker yet, though. Once the lead in a pencil has broken, it is almost impossible to to remove them. I opened the sharpener and saw lead. I tried prying it out with a paperclip. Vain. The lead is loose inside, but it just won't come through the chip hole. Try shaking the sharpener upside down. Vain. I was just trying to sharpen the wayward piece of lead by sharpening another pencil. That made the whole sharpener tremble. I spilled my coffee on the carpet. I got up early and wanted to paint 2 hours before work, but ended up spending the morning wrestling with this pencil sharpener and cleaning my coffee. Eventually the lead came out. I couldn't reproduce this process because it looks like he spilled coffee ;-) Sharpened a few more pencils and broke another one. This may be ok for harder pencils (like Standard HB Grade No. 2 or harder pencils) but may not be fine for softer drawing pencils. I haven't been able to sharpen enough to say for sure. But it looks like that could happen. I called X-Acto customer support. They told me to dig up the line with a stick. I already tried to select a leash so it didn't work. I ended up returning my first Revain wire and getting a replacement just in case mine was defective in some way. But when I received the replacement I found the lead had already broken in the shavings basket! It has been used and returned (probably also due to a sticky pencil lead). I didn't want one either someone else had already found faulty, so I ordered another replacement from Revain. This one is also needed! Currently trying to get another replacement. I will add a review but at the moment I cannot recommend this sharpener. I was able to hand sharpen hundreds of pencils in the 3-4 hours I spent on this.
