It's been a long and difficult road in the fight against proprietary, anachronistic and/or totally useless or stupid cable connectors. There was a time when replacing an appliance's power cord was an absolute nightmare because no one could reasonably expect a salesperson to own all of those things. USB has basically killed them all since then, but there are still exceptions waiting to nag you at the first opportunity. Enter a small device that requires little power to operate. For any device that requires 5V, it makes sense to use USB as a power source. Let's face it, USB ports are ubiquitous, and our high school science teaches us that a circuit doesn't just draw all of the power available just because it's there, so any device that draws from half an amp up to 3 amps (each according to USB and device specifications) you can easily use the USB port for power supply. In my particular case I have a YPbPr to HDMI converter for PS2 so I can connect it to an HDMI switcher and use the PS2 on a modern monitor with reasonable display fidelity (it's still confusing but a big improvement over old composite video .) This converter is located right next to the USB charging hub. Perfect. The problem is that the company that made this thing gave it a stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid DC plug that ends in a wart on the wall. Fan-freak-tastic. I have already used all 24 sockets. How much electricity does this wall wart require? Of course, it has to have ridiculous traction to justify such a stupid PSU decision. 0.5 volts and 1 amp? DUMB, DUMB, DUMMI, DUMBY DUMB - Anyway, that's basically the USB 2 specification. Plug that adapter in there and now I can toss that stupid wall wart. My dedicated charging hub supports 2.1 amps for charging, so the device will happily draw the 1 amp it needs to work. It is important to ensure that the voltage is adjusted and that the USB port can supply enough power for operation. the device works. If the device requires more or less than 5V then this cable will not work for you and you will need some kind of power transformer.
