I bought these to fix a pair of work jeans that had the jean material coming loose and a button closure had broken through. I patched this area with denim patches to reinforce the area. The area was tough but strong. I put on a new jean button, but the screw wasn't long enough to go through the jean patch. It won't last long, but it won't hold up under the pressure. The screw is pulled out of the button shank. The button shaft has a plastic part into which the screw is screwed. I bought another brand (Dritz) and they worked great with this pair, even with the extra layers of denim patch. 1. They can work well in other applications without additional layers.2. The screw would have held better if there was a metal shank on the inside of the knob rather than plastic.
