Comments on a set of port decanters

There are many good glasses for port, but these seemed new. I saw them on another website and when this set showed up on Amazon the price was too good to pass up. I paid as much or less for the set as I did for points on other sites, and they were free on Amazon Prime (go to Amazon!). They arrived quickly and very well packaged and undamaged. It took time and a pair of scissors to remove all the packaging. Other reviewers spoke of broken glasses. This was not my experience. The glasses are thin and small, but nothing I wasn't expecting. I like thin glasses when drinking. I was expecting teenage glasses based on other reviews. They're small but fit for purpose and most of us don't drink port anyway unless you're in a hostel, but then you drink anything. They look like the picture and the idea is that you drink port wine through a straw that looks like a pen. This allows you to taste the port from below without exposing it to air, which can alter the taste of the port. but you probably all knew that, right? The glasses hang from a carafe, which is quite durable as it has a wide base. I don't know how strong the jars will be when full and standing alone. Are these the best glasses for port wine? I don't know but the set is very good, the price is right and the glasses certainly make for good conversation while sipping a good 20 year old Tawny Port. I think it makes a great gift so I bought it. I like it so much I'm considering ordering another set. I will try to post again when the set is actually used. Update 11/27/13: The set was a great success. When the glasses were filled with port wine, they stood well on the table. No tip. The carafe looked nicely filled. The straw part of the glass could be felt right in the mouth. Definitely a talking point and a great gift.
