This gate is sturdy, functions beautifully and works well for our pet. We love that it opens either way and will either stay open at 90 degrees or automatically close when opened less that that. We also like that the door opening (that you walk through) is generously sized. The larger members of our family can easily walk through it without having to step sideways. It opens by sliding the button at the top of the door and the lifting up slightly before pushing/pulling the door open. I did get a little confused a couple of times while putting it together, but a quick call to customer service and my question was quickly answered. We are using the gate in our kitchen, so there was no need to install the wall cups with screws (needed if installing the gate at the top of stairs). The gate is snug against the door frame and is not moving - yay! We love it. Although this gate can be removed and placed somewhere else, we suggest it is best installed in a doorway where it remain. If you need a gate that needs to be removed quickly and placed in other locations rather frequently, then another style gate is best (our Safety 1st wood gate worked well for us). Hope this helps!
