Review on πŸ“» Uniden BEARCAT 980: 40-Channel SSB CB Radio with Sideband NOAA WeatherBand and Wireless Mic Compatibility by Louis Asok

Good best if you can get a good one.

Absolutely cool design office but poor execution. It's like they took a list of everything CBer could need and gave it to engineers who don't know anything about CB. What's good: * Reliable SSB. No drift due to temperature changes.* Great sound. Everyone says I sound perfect.* WX works well.* Lots of colors to display.* Built-in SWR meter.* PA function (no gain) Cons (and many):* Annoying beeps that everyone talks about. What were you thinking?* You need to buy an external speaker. The standard speaker is completely useless even with moderate wind/road noise. Pathetic 2.5 inches and 16 ohms. Even for an indoor base station, that's barely enough at best.* The display is just as bad as the speaker. Even at night it is too dark and disappears from the smallest viewing angle. During the day viewing is absolutely useless. unacceptable. Why it was allowed to be built that way is beyond me, unless Uniden just doesn't give a fuck. * QC is as bad as speakers and display. After six months of extremely infrequent use (as shown in the picture) the display went out. Then AM/WX decided to stop work after another six months in the warehouse. However, the annoying beeps still work fine. * The second unit I had does not transmit further than 1/4 mile from the rooftop base station antenna. good noise filtering. The one I have that still works picks up the oscillator e-beep that can only be muted with the noise reduction knob. All were tested on the same vehicle. * The hardware is securely locked and cannot be expanded with additional channels. *Uniden's warranty is only one year and they charge the customer for returning their lousy products that shouldn't have left the factory in the first place. *(By the way, this model disappeared from Revain's listings for about a year. I strongly suspect this was due to the high volume of returns.) If you have money to spare, look elsewhere. This model had great potential, but its flaws aren't worth the headache.
