The best SSB CB for the money!

The best SSB CB for the money, easy to set up once you've seen all the options. The backlight is a little lacking in direct sunlight, even when fully installed, but unless you're fiddling with all the options while driving, that's not an indicator. One suggestion is to manually tune the antenna before using the autotune feature and then once you have an acceptable SWR level, follow the autotune steps. If you have a properly installed system with quality components, you should see near-perfect…

Ideal for travel - portable audio and video

This is the perfect radio for my wife and I. The radio station is good. We like to have a scanner. It is only heard that police, fire brigade, emergency services and the hotspots in your area are exactly those things. You can't control the frequencies you hear, no banks, no frequencies are shown on screen, it only shows Fire, Police or Ambulance, it's a scanner that you can just turn on and hear what you hear. no programming. which is great for us. Going everywhere eliminates the need to…

Almost perfect for CB and talkback radios

Im impressed with my ready to use radio. However, there are a few things I don't like. Color and brightness of the display play almost no role. Mine is set in the ground with the sleeper and it's pretty darn dark most of the day and you can still barely see it. If I had it in a sedan or day cab/pickup I would have to return it. Big mistake on a single part. But I got it working in my situation. The HF gain, which is digitally 1-5, doesn't seem to have any fine tuning. And the squelch is turned…

An almost perfect compromise between scanner and CB. I recommend!

This device is not a perfect scanner as other reviewers have pointed out, compared to some of Uniden's other flagship scanners this device is limited. This device is the perfect answer to my problem: how to nicely install and use scanner, CB and 2m/70cm radio in my Ram 2500. I could install any two but not three without opening up the dash and without installing equipment from above under the windshield. I didn't want to do it! In use, the scanner can be operated quite comfortably while…

  • Everything is fine!

  • Doubtful

CB/scanner combo. Simple and it works!

I am both a scanner enthusiast and a CB user. I travel a lot for long distances for pleasure. This device is ideal for such drives! Turn it on and go. Easy. It works perfectly. It's very basic and that's what I want for in-car use. You can choose from four surveillance services: Police, Fire, Ambulance, and DOT. One of the transmissions heard from one of these attackers appears on the screen. No talkgroup or frequency information. I'm happy with that. If I wanted more detail I could hook up my…

Great all round radio

Uniden's mid-size Bearcat 980 SSB radio sets the gold standard for today's consumer CB radios. Many features such as scan capability, CB/PA/NOAA Wx, customizable screen colors, built in diagnostics and single band - at least in my area - are typically found in much more expensive radios. The 980's closest consumer-level competitor might be the Cobra 29. The Cobra has many of these features at a similar price, but lacks the sideband that effectively gives the 980 an additional 80 "channels"…

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • High price

Good best if you can get a good one.

Absolutely cool design office but poor execution. It's like they took a list of everything CBer could need and gave it to engineers who don't know anything about CB. What's good: * Reliable SSB. No drift due to temperature changes.* Great sound. Everyone says I sound perfect.* WX works well.* Lots of colors to display.* Built-in SWR meter.* PA function (no gain) Cons (and many):* Annoying beeps that everyone talks about. What were you thinking?* You need to buy an external speaker. The standard
