We went through 3 of them, all of them broke very quickly. which quickly broke, and later we bought a second block (I disassembled and experimented with the first block). The kids dropped it about 2 feet, it really shouldn't have broken that easily. I'm an extreme DIYer, I opened it up to see what happened. The inside is built like any regular DVD player, except for one tiny vulnerable part - a sensor that tells the device if the lid is closed. It's flimsy plastic, and if it breaks or shifts your player won't work. We attached mine with super glue but it was a difficult repair. There are a few other weaknesses. None of the hinges are very strong, including the 360-degree hinge. And the plastic around it is pretty cheap, it breaks easily. But I still like it, with some caveats. I paid $51.99 for Black Friday. I can see the price fluctuating (currently $69.99 but a few weeks ago it was only $59.99). I'll definitely try to stay under $60. Here's a summary of the specs: β’ Video quality and speaker quality are pretty decent, screen resolution is 800 x 480. It's a lower resolution than a netbook or a good tablet, but I think it's good enough. Like most portable DVD players, the speakers are flat and uncluttered. They're loud enough for normal use, which is really impressive compared to my previous portable DVD players. However, if you have background noise (bus, noisy car ride, etc.) that may not be loud enough, you need to use headphones. Also note that the screen brightness is not that great. β’ The games are not very good and break down quickly. These are old 16-bit games (like the regular Space Invaders, the regular Donkey Kong, and a bunch of games you've never heard of) and our controller failed on the second day. I suppose I could buy a spare USB controller and you can also download and burn 16-bit games to a CD and play. But it's a lot of trouble when there are tons of free online emulators that are much more versatile. β’ The TV function is not digital. I don't think they have analog broadcasts in the US anymore, so you'll need an external digital converter to hook it up to TV (or plug in a cable) β’ The radio won't work without an external antenna. We have a radio station about a mile from our house and it doesn't even record without an antenna. Once you connect these accessories (antenna, TV digitizer, etc.) they become quite bulky and not very portable. β’ Battery life is decent, enough to watch a full movie (90 minutes to 2 hours with a new fully charged battery). β’ The card reader is disappointing. It has an SD slot but has trouble reading it. I quickly realized that it will NOT read MP4s on the SD card (although it can read MP4s on the HDD). So I converted a few things to MPEG, which is the ONLY thing the SD slot seems to be reading, but it's still buggy. I'm not giving up completely yet, but I'm just now realizing that the SD card slot isn't a simple plug and play thing. β’ It can, however, play a variety of discs - Photo CDs, music, MP3s, regular DVDs and other formats (if you burn them yourself). It does not play Blu-ray. β’ The built-in controls are very limited, you will need a remote control to access some of the most basic functions. Also, everything loads quite slowly, this player is pretty clunky from all angles. β’ You should be able to connect a hard drive or flash drive to the USB port, but it should be very small. Keep in mind that this thing has almost no memory, so it will take forever to scan a regular external hard drive. β’ It comes with a power cord and car charger, which is great. It also has AV in and out connectors so you can use it like a regular DVD player and connect it to your TV. β’ The manual is very long and a bit complicated, but the thing has many functions. The problem is that many of the bonus features don't work properly or at all. β’ Also understand that they claim it has a one year warranty, but we had trouble filing a warranty claim. I think it's a great car. with a lot of nice features, so I'll give it a few stars. But it is unreliable and I cannot fully approve of it. It all depends on what you want to use it for. I hope it helps. Much luck!
