I haven't used it with microphone but tried to use it with aux out like headphone jack to record sound from audio mixer. It doesn't work for such applications. Just use it to connect a regular condenser microphone to your smart device (e.g. iPhone). Microphones provide a DC path that aux jacks do not have. Without this path, the smart device will not switch from its internal microphone to the headphone jack, so you will only record audio with the internal microphone. However, this Headset Buddy line-level adapter will do the job: https://www.amazon. com/Headset-Buddy-Line-Level-Smartphones-iPhone-Mic-Line/dp/B00OAW85ZG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1548365490&sr=8-3&keywords=Headset+Buddy+Mic+Line-Level+3.5mm+Audio +Input+Adapter The more expensive IK iRig2 also works. The headset splitter adapter is solidly built and even has a small connector that won't clog your iPhone's case or wallet. Because the headphone jack and microphone jack are on short cables, the large plugs don't interfere with each other. I expect it will work very well with a condenser or headset mic.
