I haven't used it with microphone but tried to use it with aux out like headphone jack to record sound from audio mixer. It doesn't work for such applications. Just use it to connect a regular condenser microphone to your smart device (e.g. iPhone). Microphones provide a DC path that aux jacks do not have. As usual this plug broke after 3 days of light use. I usually play for hours and it was only after 15 hours of use that I lost the headphones, then only talking or listening would work. I won't buy it again, I think the problem is with metal connectors but who knows. I've tried over 10 different connectors from Amazon and they all seem to end up the same.
