I ordered these to hold the door between the living room and ocean view patio on the 15th floor (much higher actually due to the 5 story mall, on where the Marriott Towers are located). on) the floor of our unit in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. We never use air conditioning. My partner had doubts before the doorstop came and said the gap between the door and the patio floor was so wide. We've stuffed magazines and newspapers over the past few years to keep it open, which did the job but was unsightly, especially as we both suffer from OCD! I reassured him that I measured the area and try to be a good online shopper (meaning not just reading customer reviews, but evaluating them. Some people write bad reviews about an item they bought without knowing the dimensions or materials used etc. .). .) Well, we both like that! We've used it elsewhere to hold those heavy hotel doors open while loading or unloading our luggage. We travel most of the year and this has always been a pain in the cyst (as well as my aching back) as all the doors to our rooms are heavy and unwieldy. In the future I will take Buddy (I just gave him his name) in my hand luggage. It looks like it should last forever; be hard rubber. With some clearance underneath; I don't want to mislead the readers of this review. I thought it was strong as a brick, but I think it's strong enough if the user respects their abilities and doesn't abuse it, which I think a lot of people complaining about items do. It looks like it will last, but only time will tell.
