Review on Koss SB40 Computer Headset with Built-in Microphone by John Pineda

Note to Revain: Koss' own website doesn't say this headset is for computers so why would you say , it's called "Computer Headset"? Too bad this product is called "Computer Headset" as it's not designed to connect directly to a computer/phone/tablet. For those who find that the microphone in this Product does not work with your computer/mobile phone/tablet because the microphone in this headset is a DYNAMIC microphone as stated in the product description If you want the headset to be used with your computer/mobile phone/tablet, you need a headset with an ELECTRET mic, but if you want to use the headset in your radio, with most decent sound decks, or with your ham radio transceiver, the mic is in this headset probably perfect for these applications. I've just finished the ARRL Sweepstakes Ham Radio Contest with a Koss SB40 headset connected directly (no interface electronics) to my Yaesu FT-991A SSB transceiver and was delighted to receive compliments on the audio transmitted. It's rare for radio contestants to give positive feedback about the sound being broadcast by another station during the competition (there's no time for that). Based on that, I give the Koss SB40 headset high marks for microphone sound quality. For under $30, I think this is a great headset for those who need a dynamic mic. HAM Note: Most RF transceivers are designed to work with dynamic microphones such as the Koss SB40 headset. Most VHF/UHF transceivers use electret microphones. To use the Koss SB40 in your VHF/UHF setup you typically need a small audio amplifier to boost the low level signal from a dynamic microphone to a stronger signal like that produced by an electret microphone.
