Review on 🏍️ Yamaha Big Bear 400 YFM 400 YFM400F CARB 2000-2007 - Enhanced NIMTEK Carburetor by Thasapon Bowers

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Definitely needs modifications for certain makes and models

I installed this on a 2001 Yamaha Big Bear. I quickly discovered that the throttle body inlet was threaded but the stock carburetor was not, so I had to drill out the threads with a 15/64 drill bit and then insert the inlet tube into the hole in the same orientation as the stock carburetor. Finally, the longer brass choke fitting also had to be drilled internally, leaving only 3 rows of threads for the bottom of the cable jacket as opposed to using a 15/64 drill bit. Of the original throttle body parts, only the return spring mounted at the end of the throttle cable is reused. The fuel inlet is on the opposite side of the carburetor from the original carburetor, requiring a longer fuel hose. In general, this carburetor is very similar to the original, but the material looks like aluminum painted plastic, and when tapped, it sounds more like a hit on the plastic than the original carburetor. Type of metal, possibly aluminum. The air intake is too big for the airbox outlet hose to fit the carb, had to make the correct size hose using an old wheel hose, varatan etc. The carburetor outlet was also the wrong size as it is larger and also the same size as the hose on the intake manifold. So I had to connect a 2" rubber connector to two yokes and even cut it in half to connect the carburetor to the manifold. After all that Jimmy Riggin' to get this job done, it would have saved me a lot of time and money just by getting the right carburetor for my ATV. Also, the CCV hose that was used to connect to the old carb cannot be connected to this carb as there is no fitting for it, so I had to get a 1/2 OD 6 soft copper tube to connect. this hose from the engine to the air intake hose, then connect another of the same size. Having finished all that, I have yet to see how it works before I complete my review. I plan on keeping my old carburetor and fixing it up so I can eventually put it back on the quad when it eventually fails.
