Working but overheating

I've been using it for 2 days and while it's doing what it takes the adapter itself gets really hot. It also makes my Macbook Air very hot which makes it unable to charge. I use this for an 8 hour online class a day and while it works as intended, I don't like the fact that everything gets hot, especially when my Mac is only a month old. I will get it back by continuing to search for a permanent solution.
