Motorola's website claims a range of 35/6/2 miles. 35 miles from the top of the mountain to the valley (long range because the signal goes downhill?). 6 is open water and 2 is adjacent. A random test showed that 35 miles is VERY unlikely, so don't count on mountain summoning if you're stuck in the arctic wasteland and encounter a polar bear. Two miles is certainly doable, but probably a little less if you're in a car, behind a tree, or dying in a ditch. It's a solid device with plenty of features, though, although I spent some time figuring out how to turn on the light before realizing it didn't have one. So it's clear that I'm not the smartest either.
