Not waterproof but water resistant

A bit bulky but waterproof as I expected. It's not waterproof, I couldn't use it in the rain for an 8 hour shift - water got into the speaker and it sounded like I was underwater - it took about 4-5 hours before I had any problems would have. After drying, everything worked as usual. Overall a good radio

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others

Good product for the price

We use this product to allow our team to communicate during business hours. We love that it's waterproof and programmable, allowing our team to communicate seamlessly through our own channels. You have to speak really loud and clear and make sure you hold your button down for a second before you speak, but that sounds like operator error, not product error.

Pros
  • All right!
Cons
  • Dear

Great radios but batteries stink

They are waterproof and float. Battery life stinks. You can buy additional batteries, but they can only be charged in the radio. Motorola does not make chargers for these batteries. It also runs on 3 AA batteries per walkie talkie. To get through the day, I recommend buying 2300mAh rechargeable AA batteries and charging the walkie-talkie overnight, changing the AA batteries in a separate charger.

Batteries are only 2/3 bar after the first use after 15 minutes.

Unusable batteries that do not hold a charge. I have to throw them away and use disposable batteries, which is a bit of a shame. Even when working on a small river, the volume wasn't enough to hear without holding it directly to the ear when the volume was turned up. However, we threw one straight into the river and it floated and was waterproof (at least for half a minute or so). batteries suck.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Worst Reido I've ever used

nothing but static, I bought them for my brother's birthday ie September 19th. I didn't use it until he opened it and we went on our moose hunt. The radio heard nothing but static. We ended up using a 20 year old kit that worked better than this. Now the return is overdue and I'm stuck with a couple of radios that don't work. I've been a Motorola radio user all my life and I've never had this problem. Now I can't go back and now I have to pay a price that doesn't make me happy and now I will…

35 miles? Close in Portable Audio & Video

Motorola's website claims a range of 35/6/2 miles. 35 miles from the top of the mountain to the valley (long range because the signal goes downhill?). 6 is open water and 2 is adjacent. A random test showed that 35 miles is VERY unlikely, so don't count on mountain summoning if you're stuck in the arctic wasteland and encounter a polar bear. Two miles is certainly doable, but probably a little less if you're in a car, behind a tree, or dying in a ditch. It's a solid device with plenty of…

  • The packaging is ugly

Walkie-talkies are useless if the battery doesn't hold a charge!

I am very disappointed with the radio. They feel strong and durable. I charged the device for 1.5 days and we used it on a 7 hour trip. They died about 1.5 hours into our trip! We had to plug in the charger in the car to keep them on and even after 4 hours they weren't holding a charge! The sound was clear. We have not tested the weather/water resistance. I don't know how long they've been on the shelf but I'll be contacting support to either replace the batteries or get a refund! Update - it…
