I have three monitors and my PC has 1 HDMI output, 1 Mini DisplayPort output and 1 VGA output. None of my monitors have a VGA input. So I needed the signal to go from my computer's VGA output to my monitor's HDMI input. This thing costs very little, is very easy to use and works great. If you want your video signal to go from VGA to HDMI, this product will do the job for you. Tip: As you probably already know, you can connect audio from your computer to the thing (via a 3.5mm aux cable) and it will play through a monitor that you connect HDMI to. I don't play my computer audio through this monitor so I use this connection to plug in my phone and listen to music through this monitor while playing a full screen game or something. It's legal.
