This is an amazing DAC. Sounds better with an ifi USB shield with an ifi 5v power supply as this dac doesn't have a power cord. This DAC is better than any other DAC in its price range. Clean, articulate, with good instrument separation. Sounds significantly better than any ESS Saber DAC. AK4497 is currently one of the best chips. I use an Audioquest carbon USB cable which cleans up the sound quite a bit. Works fine on MAC OS. Be sure to go into the MIDI settings and set it to maximum power. It is really important. I am very happy with this purchase. Don't forget to test the DAC for a few days to test it. The tone becomes a little softer.
