Review on Deluxe Home Accents 74-Inch Wide Span Safety Gate with Bonus Wall Mounts (4-Pack) by Lisa Becker

Not in one hand. Switch to the Supergate Deluxe in the Northern States instead.

Wow, I wanted this to work and I was very happy to get it and install it! BBBUUUTTT, I hated it. The looks are really good, it was very easy to assemble but I hate its mechanics. This is DEFINITELY not one-handed operation. It was really difficult to pull the handle back to unlock and close it to lock (you have to press the button on top and slide the handle to lock or unlock, the button was ok, just the 'handle' ", which is the only part that prevents it from opening or closing, it's garbage). I needed both hands to open and close the gate. Somehow I got the impression it was an automatic closing gate or something, but that was my own fault. There are also small plastic clips on either side of the gate door so you can open it from either just one side or both sides so you can open it either way. These too are disappointing. I wanted this gate to still open, so after trying it out it turned out to be incredibly weak with one or both tabs down (which obviously you can't open both down). If you have a small or toddler grabbing and shaking the gate I don't think it will hold up too well unless at least one of the cleats or none of them are down. And my biggest fear was that if my son starts pushing against the bottom of the gate, his small arm or foot could get trapped completely between the gate and the bottom of the gate because it's so fragile. Our opening 70". We were hoping that the extra 4 inches wouldn't make the gate stick out too much, but. It wasn't a case I could live with, but as you've been warned, it stuck out nearly a full foot more. I'm going to get the North States Supergate Deluxe instead.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Obsolete model
