Not much for beginners

Parts arrived relatively quickly and in the advertised conditions. I had never done anything like this before, so I was drawn to the phrase that it's handy for beginners. These are the instructions. absence. They tell you to unplug the cords, tie a knot in the cord and plug it into the base. There is no indication of how much space to leave. I tied and untied it three times until there was enough room to insert the knot into the base. It's not the end of the world, just constructive feedback. They tell you there is plain wire and threaded wire. None of them are smooth. The product listing reference comments say one is black and "white” is the hot wire. None of them are white and there is no black wire. They are both the exact same silver color. I continued to act on my best guess. The instructions are to clip the base into the switch once the wires are secured. So I did, and of course I didn't have to because I didn't put the threaded part where it was supposed to go in the first place. Unfortunately, it looks as if the base and switch are connected once and can no longer be separated. If you are selling to newbies, caution would be advised at this point. Do not assemble this part until the cable is attached. Now I can't take it apart and therefore can't fit the threaded cord into my lamp. The kit comes with a bunch of other parts and there are no instructions on what to do with them, where to go, when you can or can't use them. Nothing. Should I just throw them away? Were they important and should I know what to do there? Seriously, I'm new. Explain like I'm five. I haven't even turned on this build yet, which is probably for the best I guess as I'm not sure I hooked it up correctly or if I installed all the parts that should be safe. All components seemed to be in good condition and the kit arrived on time so no star but it's totally useless to me at the moment as I can't take it apart to fit my lamp. It's not for beginners, that's for sure. Or at least no direction. I'm reaching out to the manufacturer to see what they plan to do next, but this whole episode has put me off trying to do something like this myself, at least for now. Looking back, I feel stupid enough, but damn, I wish things had gone better.
