This is a very good device with very good features. It looks good, is a good size and works well. I like this DVR better than the AT&T U-verse DVR that I am currently using. I still use an over-the-air (or OTA) indoor TV antenna in addition to AT&T U-verse TV and will be giving up the expensive U-verse TV soon. TIVO is faster, better and easier to use - my room TV antenna (Free TV) is connected to the back of the unit. I am currently using TIVO and it outperforms my DVD recorder (there is a difference between a DVR and a DVD recorder as they are not the same). My criticism is that the subscription fee for the service should be reduced from $20/month to $10-13/month. Another pricing method could be to increase the price of the device by adding a free lifetime subscription (like Channel Master does). Also, I would like to have "Antenna and Cable Out" and "S-Video Out" connectors on the back of my TIVO. That way I wouldn't have to split and attenuate the signal from the OTA TV antenna to the back of the TIVO, with one antenna going to the back of the TIVO and the other going to the back of the DVD recorder. Antenna > TIVO > DVD Recorder > TV - the signal goes from one to the other even when the devices are turned off. The reason for the extra "output jacks" is to connect the TIVO DVR to a DVD recorder - this way I can dub a TV program from the TIVO DVR to a blank DVD that I want to permanently save (or collect dust) for future viewing . . Unfortunately, the DVD recorder has no "HDMI IN" or "COMPONENT VIDEO IN" and TIVO doesn't have two "HDMI OUT" anyway. I have connected a TIVO to the recorder using RCA composite cables, but the quality is poor. This review was written for the benefit of TIVO and potential TIVO buyers. I recommend TIVO even if like me you just want to watch and record free terrestrial TV as I believe you can't buy a DVR on the free market without paying a subscription fee for the service and TIVO is the best deal that I have found. I've only found one other company that does what TIVO does and I've seen way too many red flags looking at their devices. I didn't say there weren't any better deals, I just said I couldn't find them. As far as I know, the only other way to get a dash cam is to subscribe to a TV service through a cable or satellite company, which the vast majority of people do, but that's the high monthly maintenance and rental costs for the box I try to avoid in the first place. There's a lot more to cable and satellite TV than terrestrial TV, but of course you pay for it too. I need money for a gas station. Everyone has their own values. Finally, you can get a lot more recording options with the high-end TIVO Premiere XL (with THX decoding), but who has time to watch so many recorded TV shows?
