Not suitable for hamsters. I bought this to give my hamster some extra time to play on the floor, thinking there was clear plastic around the edge. It's probably my fault as I think the description says it's a net but my boy was able to get up IMMEDIATELY and almost got out of the enclosure by climbing on the net. I can't vouch for how this works with other small animals, but I can tell you that kittens over 6-8 weeks (adoption age) are able to jump through them fairly high and easily. Rabbits can also jump and other small animals can climb, so I'm really not sure which animals would benefit from this. I like the idea of a lightweight foldable playpen, but just wish there was clear plastic or something like that instead of mesh.
