The USB cable that came with the recorder was intermittently broken. That really hampered the learning process. The device creates a "RECORD” folder where all voice recordings are saved. They talk about the music file/folder but don't show anything. You can create other folders through the computer; However, you cannot write directly to these folders. All recordings are saved in the RECORDING folder - then you need to use your computer to move the file to the folder where you want to save the recording. The Garmay Dictaphone seems to work fine after you figure out how to use it. That. Leadership can be confusing. UPDATE: I bought two of these. There was an intermittent problem with the USB cable and one of the capture devices was not working properly. I left a message to Garmay and they immediately sent another replacement unit. Now everything works fine.
