The phone's clamping system is still not strong enough

<2 year review: I want to make sure everyone reading this review is referring to the iOttie Easy One Gen 3 version (NOT GEN 4) refers. Touch. Let's start with the positives: - The suction cup design is top notch and it works. I've had it mounted on my windshield, on the included mounting pad (dashboard) and for the past few months almost vertically on a faux wood (plastic) panel just in front of the passenger compartment (see photo) and it NEVER fails. even hold the S8+ which is a heavy phone. If you have a smooth mounting surface it should stick and hold (the top of the dash in the picture is textured so I had to use the included pad to place it on that surface). The telescopic arm design allows me to place it. quite a distance from me and my phone is still within reach (again, see photo). - The friction locks on the arm have never loosened and the arm has never rotated around the suction cup even when mounted vertically as shown in the photo. Only downside: - The spring/clip design of the phone is still not durable. The main actuation plate fell off in less than a year, which was normal as my phone still pressed the 'white button' that activated its clips even with the large plastic plate removed (the button is visible in the photo). Unfortunately, after 18 months, the spring system for extending/clamping the clamps no longer works properly. If you look closely at the photo, you can see that it didn't work. The phone's handles are fully retracted, but the drives just below the handles, which you have to squeeze to pull the handles out again, are fully extended on one side and fully retracted on the other (the extended left side is slightly exposed by the camera hidden). ). Lightning). Summary: While I'm disappointed with the design of the GEN 3 phone clip, it doesn't seem like they really addressed the shortcomings of the GEN 2 phone clip, but I'm totally impressed with their base and bracket design. My plan is to see if I can find another phone clip (supplier) that attaches to a similar sized ball socket and keep using the iOttie base. I'd upgrade to their wireless option, but reviews for using the S8+ with their wireless charger are grim.

Pros
  • The sticky gel pad sticks securely to most surfaces but is easy to remove. Also includes a dashboard pad that attaches to various surfaces
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
