Review on Surveillance Supported Security Recording RLK16 410B8 by Brian Young

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Damn good system!

Okay now I have 4 of these systems (16 channel NVR) and 11 to 13 poe cameras in each setup. First of all you will find that the quality of the cameras is amazing. It feels like they could be thrown by a car or run over. The NVR is also quite elegant. It comes preloaded with a 3TB hard drive. One nice thing about this NVR compared to others from Reolink is that it comes with storage space and comes with an extra hard drive pre-installed. For some reason you can only install drives up to 4TB. Each of my systems has a 3TB hard drive and 4TB = 7TB total. The systems are very easy to set up. You just have to use either the IP address or the UID. You can either use the nvr itself to view the video stream (and recordings) or you can use the desktop, iPhone or Android apps. Love having the Apple app, it makes it very easy to check my various stores while I'm away. As I said, each of my systems has between 11 and 13 4 megapixel cameras. Each of the cameras records 4 megapixel video as well as audio (the cameras have a microphone - in my case cameras 410 and 420) and there is never a lag in any of the video streams. Okay, now there are a couple of issues that need to be mentioned: There's no option to fast forward or rewind the video like you're likely to see on other NVRs. You can still skip the video, but it's not really fast forward or rewind. This is frustrating when trying to quickly find an important event. You can only fast forward/rewind if your monitor is configured on the dash cam itself and not on the desktop or mobile apps. Another problem I've noticed is that you can only set the shutter speed on these cameras in black and white, and then you can only set it to around 1/2500 before the camera starts to steam. Other HD cameras can operate at shutter speeds as high as 1/100,000, making it difficult to choose a camera to capture fast-moving subjects. YOU WILL NOT, repeat, be able to see the license plate of a car moving at more than 5 miles per hour. While these issues are seen as deal breakers for many, I still really like the video quality and the overall system. Had I made up my mind I might have thought of starting Hikvision, but I'm in no way upset with the investment I've made in these systems. In the past few months the only bug I've encountered (between 4 nvrs and 44 cameras) has been a power failure on one of the nvrs. This actually happened about 2 days after the system was installed, so I suspect the power supply was bad. Reolink responded very quickly and solved my problem. I will provide any updates if there are any problems or successes. Hope that helps. I included a 4 megapixel image (assuming Amazon allows me to use the file). I think there are some pretty amazing details.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
