Review on Casio CW K85 Title Printer Keyboard by Sean Burnett

Casio disc name printer The only game in town

I currently have two models of Casio CW-50 disc title printers. I just ordered a CW-K85. I have 3 computers, 2 for XP and a third for whist. I found the CW-50s worked fine on XP, but they didn't have a software update to get the units working on Vista. Nobody has ever blogged about it, and Casio hasn't responded to my email inquiries about a possible Vista driver update. I'm buying a Casio printer with a keyboard to use as a standalone printer on my Vista computer. I can speak very well about these machines. Make a clear label that will not peel off (thermal). Ribbon cartridges are sold in packs of 3 for around $20. Three tapes gives you 120 tracks, or 40 each. I use some of the different scripts but haven't figured out the design. I create simple titles for my favorite shows or home DVDs. I'm looking forward to my CW-K85 and hope it's Vista ready. If not, well that's why I bought it with a keyboard. A few words about hard drives. TDK, Sony and Fuji make discs that have enough space for printing. Lettering on both sides of the center and silver to make your title stand out. These are really good quality discs so you will have fewer errors. Memorex would not copy anything for me. I tried 20 DVD+R discs and all stopped due to read/write errors. HP also makes great discs, but they are difficult to print on due to the design and color. These machines work best with a satin silver wheel. I've also been told that cheaper drives don't work at all, as is the case with Memorex. Save money and buy discs from Fuji, TDK or Sony. Get creative! Have fun!
