Review on TomTom START 50M: Your Ultimate 5-Inch GPS Navigator with Lifetime Maps by Mark Adams

I bought this to replace an old Magellan. Judging by the reviews it's really good and the price was great. I also bought it for lifetime map updates which I didn't have with Magellan. The first thing I noticed was that the touchscreen isn't very responsive. It's more like a touch screen. It takes some time to work. I hooked it up to my computer for updates as per the booklet that came with it. The update took over an hour. When I used it for the first (and only) time I was very disappointed with the performance. It kept losing contact with the GPS even though I was on the freeway and nowhere near town. Once the signal was lost for more than 5 minutes. I'm glad I didn't try to drive through a foreign city back then. Imagine you are driving 65 miles per hour on a freeway and the GPS device tells you to turn left after 150 feet. This happened several times. The unit cornered us on a country road and tried to get us back on the freeway. It's time to find a new navigator. I am sending this back. Luckily I bought it through Revain so the return process is very easy.
