I bought this for my 2 year old knowing he would be more advanced and what would become of him. He loves his giant bead maze so I thought it would be a great way to introduce him to counting. I've looked at toys with removable counting beads, but I just KNOW he's going to lose them! Regular straight abacus looks easier but I figured they might help with addition and subtraction one day! He loves counting the beads and moving them along the arc. Also great for teaching colors and working on a number/color dictionary. Like all other Melissa & Doug toys, this one is very well built and a nice compact size. Saves a lot of space compared to other accounts. Highly recommend for all ages! Hope that helps. 😉
