Purchased to replace a previous Zojirushi kettle that has lasted us 13 years. It works well in terms of cooking and temperature control. However, we did suffer some damage to the top of the kitchen cabinet due to the intense jet of steam escaping from the lid. We placed it along with some other appliances on the countertop under the top row of kitchen cabinets in the same spot where our old 5L Zojirushi used to sit. .After a few weeks of use, there was damage to the bottom of the upper cabinets - the stream of steam coming out of the lid nozzle is quite intense and targeted, eventually forming a kind of bulb at the bottom of the cabinet (MDF) . It doesn't help that the unit is quite large and the nozzle is taller and closer to the cabinets compared to the old kettle (although we still had about 8 inches of clearance from its lid to the cabinets). I think this needs a design change. a jet nozzle to reduce the pressure and speed of the escaping steam and spread it more widely. There was never such a problem with the old boiler; I would not buy it again because of this problem. If you buy one, be careful with placement - it's best to place it in a completely open area or at least 2 feet above it, or keep your cabinets away from steam.
