Review on 24 Inch Dell S2421HGF Anti Glare Monitor with 1920X1080P Resolution by Telus Parks

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The first impression is quite positive.

To be clear, this is a review of the 24-inch model, not the 27-inch. I've only had it a few days, so I'll have to wait and see if my years of experience match my first impressions. but so far it has met all my expectations. Easy to assemble and connect, no stuck pixels or other cosmetic issues. It only comes with an HDMI cable, so I had to buy a DisplayPort cable separately, but that doesn't matter. Also, I was happy that it supports G-Sync. Based on the listings on the store page, I was under the impression that the 24-inch and 27-inch models support FreeSync, but only the larger model has G-Sync. So when I ordered the smaller model I had to figure out how to get FreeSync to work with my Nvidia PC card. But the actual packaging (and the sticker on the base of the stand) makes it clear that the 24-incher is fully G-Sync enabled, and once I plugged it in, I simply activated it through the Nvidia control panel. I'm upgrading from a regular 60Hz office monitor, so I immediately noticed a huge difference when gaming. My computer isn't particularly powerful so most games can't go above 100 fps without lowering the graphics settings, but even at 80-90 fps everything seems noticeably smoother. A 1ms response time also makes a big difference - my old monitor had an input lag of around 8ms. avoid any tearing or stuttering, and even when I crank the graphics settings to high and let the framerate fluctuate, it still feels smooth. The overall image also feels brighter, sharper, and sharper, with noticeably more vibrant colors. This is especially true in games, but it's true even just for surfing the web. It's the cheapest option without sacrificing quality, by the way, so it's probably inferior to most other gaming screens, but if you're switching from a regular 60Hz monitor, it's a definite improvement. My only complaint is that for some reason the default gamma setting is too high, so everything looked very washed out when I first plugged it in, with colors actually less vibrant than on my old monitor. At first I thought it was a contrast issue, so I tried playing around with my monitor's own contrast and brightness settings, but it didn't work. But then I went into the Nvidia control panel, lowered the gamma by about 30% and voila, an instant fix.
