Review on 24 Inch Dell S2421HGF Anti Glare Monitor with 1920X1080P Resolution by Brian Odell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

When I see it in person, I understand the low price

In short: I bought two of these because the specs looked good on paper and they were cheaper than others with similar specs. Unfortunately, once I plugged them in and saw a live picture I understood why they are so cheap - the colors are horribly washed out. Having the two side by side also makes it harder for the controls to work for the left side. I wanted a pair of monitors that were 1) about 23-24 inches diagonal, 2) 1080p resolution, 3) adjustable height and tilt. , 4) DP and HDMI inputs, 5) 120Hz or more refresh rates and fast response times, 6) FreeSync and/or G-Sync compatibility, 7) narrow side panels, 8) downward-facing ports whenever possible, and of course 9) in my budget. They look great on paper and meet all my needs. Furthermore, not only do they have FreeSync, they also have FreeSync Premium AND G-Sync compatibility (I know G-Sync compatibility is not the same as G-Sync, but all real monitors with G-Sync are too expensive for my budget; also , It may interest you that these monitors came with a G-Sync sticker on the bases of the stand, which is not shown in the product listing). They also have a 3 year advanced exchange service and premium panel replacement. Opinions vary, but I have faith in Dell, particularly their premium/business products, based on past experience. Finally, the monitor has a built-in AC/DC converter, so you don't have to fiddle with a brick on the power cord. Unfortunately, although, as said, they look good on paper, in reality the colors of the image appear very pale, dull and washed out. Yes, you can make some adjustments; and no its not bad for me that i want to return them especially with all the other good points on them but it was a big disappointment when i first saw my new toys glow. Also - and I didn't even think about it until I got it - the control buttons are on the back on the right. So if you put two of them next to each other, the controls on the left will be difficult. . In terms of ergonomics, the control layout is actually pretty good for a single monitor (although the five-way joystick is a bit touchy and I'm not entirely sure why the extra five-way joystick buttons are needed in the first place), but with two side walls. - almost good for one and very bad for the other. Also, this monitor has a headphone jack (but not on the front or anywhere easily accessible). I love connecting a Fire TV Stick to an Xbox One connected to one of my two PC monitors and figured if I could hook up a stereo audio cable from the monitor's headphone jack to my PC's line-in I hear the fire TV/Xbox sound through my PC but it didn't work. Maybe it was because the output and input levels were unbalanced. Maybe because I didn't set the sound settings correctly. Who knows. I gave up quickly and didn't really try plugging wired headphones into the monitor to see if that worked because it's not an undesirable solution for my setup. And I don't want to buy a separate converter/extractor. All in all, if you're looking for a cheap entry-level gaming monitor with a good guarantee/warranty and need some of its specific features (e.g. the height adjustment, which isn't that common), this is a good value. Note, however, that the left monitor controls will be difficult to work with in a parallel setup, and you will have to spend some time adjusting color, brightness, contrast, etc. on both the monitor and your PC.
