Review on 🎡 RoWood Build Your Own Music Kits by Michael Murphy

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sooo much work, but it's worth it!

I'm thrilled. I got this for my little girl's birthday because it reminded me of the game we love (Monument Valley). We're all totally in. BENEFITS: They really thought of everything when designing this music box! There is a hidden staircase that leads the viewer to a tree at the top. Small buildings, gates, etc. in the perimeter have few repetitions. The columns are doubled to have depth and "lit" windows. There are tiny little turrets that you add protruding. They produce single flowers that can be cut and arranged as if they had fallen from a tree. Wherever there is a small piece hanging from others, the makers have also painted the opposite side. It's just an insane attention to detail. (PS - the petals are made from cardboard that has been treated to give them an iridescent colour!) Each one will be unique in some way and there is something to discover. My daughter started with a surprise when I was building and created a little story in her head. In that regard, it was exactly what I had hoped for. Parts slightly penetrated for the most part. I only had a few breaks but they were easily fixed with the included glue. CONS: It took me a full 4 hours to assemble this thing. The instructions are pretty good, but their schematic nature is inherently complex. Eventually I found a YouTube video of someone assembling this. You got one part wrong (using dowels instead of string to connect the floating clouds). Overall it helped me a lot to see how everything fits together. I couldn't get their website to upload a video that should have been there to help with the build. It's fragile. If you do not unscrew the apparatus of the music box from stronger parts, it will break very quickly. I'm sure the tiny pins holding this mount will snap if twisted. This design would be much better with a pivoting "key" rather than rotating parts of the entire structure in opposite directions. won't fit properly. I suggest doing a dry mount and then gluing again.
