I'm not a big fan of Orbit valves but their manifold system is excellent. You simply connect these adapters to Orbit's swivel adapters and manifolds and you can assemble a valve kit that allows you to replace a valve, filter or pressure regulator without hours of extra work and the expense of digging, cutting, gluing, etc. Parts Orbit manifolds are basically valve box specific connections that allow you to easily remove and swap out components in your valve box. , then at best you can simply unscrew your old parts and screw in a new part that is identical in construction. Worst case, if you can't find an identical part, you can always replace the defective part with something not the same length and glue a short piece of PVC and a new manifold adapter. In any case, there is no need to dig, and the cost is minimal. In the photo below you can see the 3 Orbit Slip Manifold Adapters. They are taped to white PVC pipes that go straight down and out of the valve box. Rain Bird valves are 100-DVF-NPT and the leftmost valve is for drip irrigation and has a combination filter/regulator.
