I bought a replacement drain plug for my sink when it broke. During this search I came across Sink Shroom and decided to give it a try. When I bought it I was more interested in finding something that would temporarily prevent things from falling down the drain if accidentally dropped, but this turned out to be a handy replacement for two reasons. Not only is it easy to store unnecessary things. When drain but it also keeps hair off my drain. My daughter and I have long curly hair that always ends up in the sewers no matter how hard we try to avoid it. I used to have to use a long tool every week to dig those nasty strands of clumps out of the drain. Sink Shroom catches that blush before it goes deep into the sewers. The center of the mushroom bowl is a sort of tube with holes in it to allow water to drain into the tube and down the drain while the hair is caught in the "shelf" below and wrapped around the center. The top "shelf" keeps other things from going down the drains. Now every week I just take her out of the drain and use a Clorox towel to rip out her hair and wipe down the sink shroom. 1 star deducted because 1) black goo builds up over time. I soaked it in bleach overnight but it won't come off. I bought a new one after 1 year because I can't stand nasty things after such a long time. 2) The drain drains slower than it could. This is mainly because the bottom shelf for my drain is larger than it should be. This really fits because there are strategic cuts in the silicone that allow the round shelf to curve up just enough to get a tight seal that works well for my smaller drain. The bend also makes the holes in the shelf smaller due to the overlap, which can really slow down water passage. This is especially true when the hair gets tangled and starts to pile up on the shelf. It would be nice if they could find a way to solve this problem as it would also help get rid of the large amount of black slime that accumulates. Nevertheless, I recommend this product. If necessary, I buy a new one every year.
