I've had this speaker for about a week now and I think it works great for the price. We have 1 each for our 12 and 8 year olds and they both love them. It has 7 light modes and the last three of them are equalizer light modes that depend on the volume of the music. This means that at low volumes you cannot see the effect of the equalizer. As for me, I have to turn the volume up to at least 75% for it to work, which is one of two reasons I gave it a 4-star rating. I have tested the light in the dark and I will say it is beautiful and looks amazing. Another reason is that the audio is not as loud and clear as I would like. Don't let that put you off though, and consider that this speaker is under $30 and the speaker volume I'm used to is at least $50. The volume is normal for the price. Perfect for a picnic or a get together. However, I can't say that would be enough for a party. In any case, the transition to Bluetooth pairing is very simple. You just turn it on, select the speaker on your phone or iPod and pair it. There is no pairing button to press and hold. The speaker doesn't remember what it's connected to so you have to plug it in every time, but I don't feel that's a deal breaker and it makes it very easy for kids to use. Now let's talk about the sound quality. This speaker seems to be geared towards medium audio levels. There isn't much bass or treble, but the vocals are clear and undistorted. Yes, it has bass and treble, but as said, the midrange seems to be the focus of this speaker. Also in terms of audio level, I feel my ihome bt74 is 30% louder and my Altec Lansing imw479 50% louder than this speaker. Keep in mind that these two speakers cost at least $50 instead of $30. The treble is better on both of the other speakers and the bass is better on the JBL Bluetooth speakers my friends have. The speaker is a decent weight and doesn't feel like a cheap speaker at all. The controls are simple and you can control your iPod with the volume, pause and skip songs from the speaker itself. Another thing I like about the controls is that you don't have to adjust the volume for each element individually. That means I don't have to turn up the volume on the speaker itself and then separately turn up or down on my iPod. When the volume on the iPod is at its maximum, it is also at its maximum on the speaker. The volume control you see on your iPod or phone is what it is. All in all, if you're buying this speaker for your kids or for yourself if you're not a music lover, this is a great buy. It's perfect for your everyday needs like BBQs and days at the beach or just chilling out with the crew, and you won't be too disappointed if the kids accidentally break or lose it. If you're looking for that speaker for that loud party you're about to throw, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Overall, I have no regrets buying this speaker and would buy it again if the price stayed under $30.
