Increases range and you can remove a longer antenna if needed

Definitely wanted to give a review on this. I am very happy. I have six Baofeng UV5R 5W radios that we use at a mountain camp in North Carolina on the GRMS frequency. The first thing to note is that the longer whip portion of this antenna can be removed by unscrewing, leaving the smaller short antenna in place. I did just that, only adding a longer whip when needed, which comes in very handy. The amazing thing was that I could communicate with just a short radio station at a much greater distance than any other radio station. Literally just with this one on the radio my radio went off while someone sitting next to me couldn't hear anything. We had a medical emergency with a Boy Scout and I was in a remote part of the camp fetching water with the other leaders. Of the 3 radio stations, mine only caught the transmission normally with a short part of the antenna. And we only had one radio with this antenna; I can only imagine how well this will work with all the upgraded radios. I'm in the process of replacing all the antennas with these. This is a great update.
