After trying a few protective shorts, we realized that this is the way to go. Our 12 year old (5ft 4in, 125lbs) struggled with the "protective underwear", he said it was very uncomfortable, the cup was always sticking out and moving back and forth all over the place. So we decided to buy and try. As a catcher, he has to move a lot, and the bowl has to move with him. This jock cup and girdle do exactly what he needs, he is so happy and says he completely forgets he's wearing them, he doesn't realize. Note** We had to get a smaller cup as the one that came with the set was generally too big and took up all the space in the pants making it uncomfortable. Otherwise a great purchase.
