The candles arrived well packaged but upon opening it was obvious that at least one of them was used or damaged (perhaps from a previous customer who returned it? Not sure.) After seeing them all with the checked same set had brand new batteries, we found two candles not working at all. One of the two had an end that didn't even stay closed to hold the batteries (this is the one we think was definitely used before we got it). The other just didn't work at all. I'm very disappointed because it looks like they could be great. They have a nice waxy finish on the outside that makes them look like a real candle and the flickering is nice and subtle. I was very happy to get the remote control as I have had LED candles in the past that could only be turned off by removing the batteries completely (such a pain!). But we had to return them because I refuse to pay almost $40 for something that doesn't work. I think we will buy another brand again next year.
