Not applicable to 2000 Dodge Dakota MY

I recently installed a hitch on my friend's 2000 Dodge Dakota. I've used these T-connectors in the past and they're quick and easy. However, when I inspect the underside of my friend's truck, there is no such connector on a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4wd V8. We traced the wiring from the tail light connectors through all the factory connectors and connections. This vehicle does not have such a plug. We were going out of town, so we cut the trailer's 4-wire harness off the T-connector. We hooked it up to the existing wiring to get it working, but it's not for the inexperienced. You have separate ground and power for each light so you have 14 wires. Three for each tail and brake light. 2 for CHMSL, 2 for license plate light and 2 for each reverse light. Black with Yellow Stripe - Primer. The brake/stop/ac wire is the longest wire for each bulb (some green with a red stripe, some white with a stripe, and so on). I combined all the grounds in one part of the splice and attached 4-wire pigtails to the white wire. The power cables of the left and right running light have been combined into one, as they have no individual work and are connected to the brown cable of the 4-wire pigtail from the T-connector. I then split the stop/turn/brake wires into left and right wires and connected them to the corresponding yellow and green wires on the 4-wire pigtail. Everything worked perfectly on the truck and trailer. Kurt needs to research this a little more. Just because car models look the same doesn't mean they're built the same. I hope this saves someone some heartache. Pick up a 4-wire pigtail at Napa or Home Depot for $5.
