Review on Cleanpower Batteries Battery Regenerator Desulfator by Bill Howard

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Amazing results. Looks promising.

UPDATE 7/15/2018: It has taken me some time to get up and running with this unit in real world testing. I am completely amazed and shocked at the multiple battery improvement of this device. I originally used this for some small 12v scooter batteries. They seem to have gotten better, but I just didn't know how much, whether it's from using this device or just general charging. I now have a 12 volt AGM battery for my jet ski that held about 5.6 volts constantly. It charges to around 11.9 volts, but drops to 5.6 volts after a day of inactivity and no connection. I decided to charge the battery up to 11.9V and quickly plug this device in to let it work its magic. After it stopped working I charged the battery again and this time the battery holds a charge of about 10 volts. Wow! I'm amazed at what he did the first time. I ran a few more charge and desulfurization cycles and decided to let it sit for a week to see if it held its charge. We will inform you soon. This device did not come with any documentation on how to use it or what to expect which is why I give it 1 star. It looks like this $20 desulfation device actually saved my 12v AGM battery while another $50 charger/desulfation combo I bought saved my 12v deep cycle battery (*no; see update from 08/06/18; desulphation can lower the electrolyte level and must be topped up). My next test will be to see if this device can repair a deep cycle battery that was destroyed by a (*no) $50 charger/desulfator combo. UPDATE 7/31/18: I found that this is the first time I've used this with an AGM battery, the battery seems to perform better (maybe a lot better). After several charge and desulfation cycles, I found that the battery's condition had deteriorated and is now not holding a charge like it did the first few times it was desulfed. I recommend only using it once or twice with the same battery as the benefits and possible negative effects diminish after using the same battery multiple times. I'll do a few more tests and report. UPDATE 7/8/18: After further testing I found something that is not mentioned in the non-existent manual. During the desulphation process, this device may cause some of the battery/electrolyte/sulphuric acid solution to evaporate). Adding water to top up the electrolyte seems to solve the problem of keeping the battery charged. So be sure to add water if the battery cells look dry or dead (see photos provided). Be careful when doing this as sulfuric acid is highly corrosive and splashed on your body or eyes can be devastating. I read that AGM batteries have a catalytic plug to convert vaporizing gases back to liquid. although I believe this system did not work on my AGM battery. In summary, this desulfation device and the other $50 desulfation charger seem to get the job done, with some intervention if the battery/electrolyte solution is lost in the process. . Unfortunately, due to the way these products are designed, it's hard to tell if this device actually works or not. In practice, it takes a long time to understand whether the technical marvel of desulfation technology is having an effect or not. Something is happening and power is being consumed, but does that extend battery life? We probably won't find out any time soon. I thought this device would (automatically) charge the battery during or immediately after battery desulfation, but it only desulfates - hence the battery needs to be charged multiple times to get the desired effect. I like that it can work with 1-4 batteries connected in series. To be honest I'd rather have a device that can do it all (and no manual intervention ie where I don't have to manually charge, desulfate, repeat). So I order another product from Revain that promises exactly that.
