When we got our Berkey we threw away our primers because we figured we wouldn't need them in 10 years. Boy were we wrong! At 6 months, our Burke practically didn't slow down. I spoke to some people and they told me that I need to clear the filters. I tried that and it still didn't work. I contacted the company and they told me I can buy new primers for my filters, but instead I went with this kit. It worked very well. I placed the filter in a 1/2 gallon rock jar and filled it that way because I didn't have a bucket big enough or found clean enough to refill the filters. Each filter is filled in minutes and our Berkey is working like new again.
