Description of Berkey COMINHKPR69752 Black Primer: An Essential Tool for Heavy Duty Paint and Surface Preparation

The Black Berkey Primer is a hand-powered priming pump that makes it possible to prime Black Berkey Elements easily, without the need for faucets or hose connections. Priming the Black Berkey Elements saturates the filters with water prior to their use, allowing for clean water production anywhere. The Black Berkey Primer also purges (or back-flushes) the Black Berkey Elements using air instead of water to clean the proprietary pores of the compressed carbon filter wall, for storage. With a Black Berkey Element properly immersed in water & attached to it, the Black Berkey Primer creates a simple pressure gradient which draws water into the center of each Black Berkey Element. Once the Black Berkey Element is completely saturated with water, it passes through the Black Berkey Primer and squirts out of the opposite end. The Black Berkey Primer is the easiest way to prime Black Berkey Elements. Please note this primer is only for Black Filters.

not working, air leaking

The hose that attaches to the pump is too loose and allows air to be sucked in and prevents the air from being properly removed from the filter. I've seen another reviewer describe a solution to this problem using a wire to tighten the connection, but I don't think I need to go that far. The product has to work. I had to remove the filters as there was no flow. Refilling the filter was made easier with the included fill button.

Doesn't work as advertised.

Another expensive trick from Berkey. Now the seller is excellent, but the product is useless if it is not provided with additional valves and adapters. I got this to work (with difficulty) and got an idea of cleaning it to prolong the life of the filters. The water is mostly contaminated with iron sulfide, which contributes to the formation of iron oxide, which simply clogs the outer layer of the filters. With lots of pipe angles, valves, and the right fittings, this will work for me, but it's…

I love it. Highly recommended

You just have to have this thing! I'm scared of traveling and when I'm in hotels I never know if the sink is big enough to fill my black filter. To fill the black filter you have to submerge it in water, FYI. To keep this in mind when using this tool, I place a black filter in the bottom of my barley travel container and fill it with water. Then you just press. It takes about five minutes, if that. Also, you refill without water and it helps dry out the travel black filter. I love him. I can…

Slow Burke? Take it!

When we got our Berkey we threw away our primers because we figured we wouldn't need them in 10 years. Boy were we wrong! At 6 months, our Burke practically didn't slow down. I spoke to some people and they told me that I need to clear the filters. I tried that and it still didn't work. I contacted the company and they told me I can buy new primers for my filters, but instead I went with this kit. It worked very well. I placed the filter in a 1/2 gallon rock jar and filled it that way because I

Abandoned after 1 hour

The instructions that came with the primer were not helpful. because important information is missing. I had to watch several YouTube videos made by users to learn how to use it; When I put everything together I couldn't fill it with water after a few minutes. Then I called Burke on 800 - they told me it should work after about 50 clicks. When I told them I must have pressed 200 times they told me I assembled them incorrectly which was disappointing as the instructions were so terrible. I…

Saved me from buying new filters!

This thing works MUCH better than the rubber washer/faucet cleaning and priming method! My filters were slowing down about every few months (or less), and even though I cleaned them and tried to clean them with a faucet, water flowed everywhere and there just wasn't enough pressure to really get the job done. I gave four stars because the instructions are terrible but once you get the hang of it it saves you the hassle of buying new filters! It takes quite a bit of pumping to unclog and refill…

I've worked on filters and my water gives them a workout.

Just received today and used on my filters. I clean the filters regularly by rubbing them vigorously with a soft brush and cleaning pad. Prime again after each cleaning. However, my water (and it's municipal water) has SO MUCH DEPOSIT that it slowed my filters down to the point where they were almost useless. Before I bought a new kit, I settled on this one. Refilling my filters is difficult (though not impossible) due to the type of sink faucet I have. Well, let's just say Burkey won't be…

Elements draws . Once the Black Berkey element is fully saturated with water, it passes through the Black Berkey primer and is ejected at the opposite end.
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

I bought this in January this year and was finally able to use it when installing 2 new Black Berkey filters. Then I realized how overpriced this product is. Thank god I'm pretty good at fixing things and finding solutions to problems. Basically fixing other people's/company's bad/cheap projects. After figuring out how to properly assemble this pump, I used it on my first new filter. All I got was lots of air mixed with some water. At first I thought it was just "displacing" the air contained…

Pros
  • Black Berkey Cell Primer saturates filters with water before use so clean water can be produced anywhere.
Cons
  • No Instructions

Works well! Best in Camping and Backpacking

My sink faucet does not have a smooth surface (it's a shower head) so it doesn't make good contact with the fill button. So I ordered this primer. It worked great. Both filters were filled and ready to use in about 15 minutes. Another advantage of having it on hand is that it works without running water (in case of emergency, etc.). Putting the primer together can be tricky and the instructions aren't very good. I watched a YouTube video explaining how to assemble it (link at the bottom of this

Pros
  • Black Berkey Primer is the easiest way to prime Black Berkey elements. Please note that this primer is only suitable for black filters.

  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
