This thing works MUCH better than the rubber washer/faucet cleaning and priming method! My filters were slowing down about every few months (or less), and even though I cleaned them and tried to clean them with a faucet, water flowed everywhere and there just wasn't enough pressure to really get the job done. I gave four stars because the instructions are terrible but once you get the hang of it it saves you the hassle of buying new filters! It takes quite a bit of pumping to unclog and refill as the bulb is not very large. So keep that in mind when you start. Some reviewers have reported the hose being too big or escaping air during the process, but I haven't had a single issue; In fact, the tube was very narrow and it took a lot of effort to get things right. All in all I'm glad I bought this little contraption - replacement filters are so expensive compared to what it costs so it was worth it!
