Review on Berkey COMINHKPR69752 Black Primer: An Essential Tool for Heavy Duty Paint and Surface Preparation by Dustin Miller

Extremely overpriced for what it is! Requires redesign and price reduction. Seems to be a common problem.

I bought this in January this year and was finally able to use it when installing 2 new Black Berkey filters. Then I realized how overpriced this product is. Thank god I'm pretty good at fixing things and finding solutions to problems. Basically fixing other people's/company's bad/cheap projects. After figuring out how to properly assemble this pump, I used it on my first new filter. All I got was lots of air mixed with some water. At first I thought it was just "displacing" the air contained in the new filter element and replacing it with water. After a while I realized that wasn't the case and started looking for the problem. At about this time, the plastic tubing between the plastic filter adapter and the one-way inlet valve broke off the valve and would not close. To fix this I resorted to a small spring clip that can be operated with pliers to slide the hose on and secure it to the valve. The next time I tried it I was still sucking air so I looked for another problem. This time, when I submerged the filter all the way past the plastic adapter, I found that the adapter was leaking air around the threads. No matter how hard I tightened the fitting, it still sucked in air. I solved this problem by wrapping the filter's threads with teflon tape and the problem was solved. my conclusion. It's an expensive device with poor design and Berkey needs to reverse engineer and upgrade it. As? Pre-assemble them to one-way valves with longer hoses and spring clips. NO place to continue!

Pros
  • Black Berkey Cell Primer saturates filters with water before use so clean water can be produced anywhere.
Cons
  • No Instructions
