Some modern computers no longer have the VGA connector that was the standard for decades. When I bought a new computer I had to buy this cable to use my monitor. The computer had a digital DisplayPort connection (no VGA or other analog connection) and the monitor had a digital DVI connection, so this cable was the solution. That works great. My only advice is to not go for the 3ft cable unless your computer is very close to the monitor.
